Tani Avarthanam and a prayer on Ramayana (2021)

Tani Avarthanam and a prayer on  Ramayana

June 5, 2021

Tani Avarthanam is a pure dance rhythmic composition where the dancer uses Bharatanatyam technique to interpret different time cycles, movements, and patterns.  Tani (solo) Avarthanam (rhythmic cycles) is an important feature in the south Indian classical music tradition where a percussionist delivers an extensive composition.  In classical dance such a dance featuring intricacies and multiple calculations in the footwork is called ‘Shuddha Nrittam’ or pure dance technique. Here the musical tradition of Tani has been adapted to the dance choreography.
