Dancing in Dire Times
Join us for a virtual performance and talk back on Saturday, May 16 at 7 pm PST. Donna Sternberg & Dancers is collaborating with Rangoli Dance Company to present a dance responding to the covid-19 pandemic. Dancers from both companies were given instructions to choreograph a short dance sequence which will be edited and blended to create a unique shared dance. This cross-cultural experiment highlights the intricacies and beauty of different cultures who share the love of communicating through dance. Rangoli Artistic Director Malathi Iyengar will join Donna as well as dancers from both companies to talk about what the experience was like and how in this new environment, we can create dance that inspires and stimulates both artists and audience members. Both Rangoli and DS&D are celebrating their 35th anniversary this year and the project is a celebration of this milestone as well as an offering of gratitude for those who have supported us throughout the years. Don’t miss it!

Threads 2019 Conference
Topic: Teaching Indian Dance in USA
Artists and writers have given voice and form to the inaccessible enigma of the Vedic heritage. The timeless lineage has flourished in Americas due to the tireless dedication of the teachers of music, dance, theatre, and literature; it is the backbone of what we call our culture. Our food, our literature, our philosophy, and our day-to-day living are grounded in one essential secret that links it all. In this interactive session, the artist, the performer, the writer, and the cook collaborate in telling the story of their journey as the carriers of that supreme delight.
Offering: The Gift of Time
Inspired by the USC Pacific Asia Museum’s photo exhibit ‘Following The Box’, the performance is a synthesis of movement, photography, sculpture, archival materials, and newly commissioned original musical scores by Rajkumar Bharathi (Chennai, India).
