Malathi Iyengar & Rangoli Dance Company present two new works:
GANESHA
THE WOODCUTTER and THE RIVER GODDESS

July 14, 2013 - Sunday @ 4pm

Barnsdall Gallery Theatre (Barnsdall Art Park)
4800 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, CA 90027

Indian dance, music, & visual design by Rangoli Dance Company and guest dancers from India including Renjith Babu Choorakkad and Parshwanath Upadhye.

A universal story of temptation, honesty, and the consequences of choice, THE WOODCUTTER and THE RIVER GODDESS teaches the value of honesty in our daily lives. Adapted and inspired by Aesop’s Fables, Jataka Tales, and similar stories from India, Tibet, Thailand, China, and Nigeria, the Rangoli Dance Company explores this life lesson with creative passion and fresh insight!

GANESHA is one of the most popular Gods in India, who bestows good luck on new ventures, significant events, and journeys. As the God of wisdom and remover of obstacles, Ganesha reminds us of the importance of dedication to duty, parents’ love for their children, and compassion. Join Rangoli Dance Company as we tell the legend of Ganesha’s birth, and celebrate the auspicious prosperity that he brings to life!

Choreographer Malathi Iyengar is the recipient of the 2013 C.O.L.A Choreography Fellowship from the City of Los Angeles and the 2010 Lester Horton Award for Outstanding Achievement in World Dance for her choreography ‘Shivaya’.
